Recently, Amy Hinzmann, president of Cimplifi, sat down to chat with Danielle Belonio, associate director, strategic engagements. Like Kristen, Danielle is new to the team, joining in November of 2021 and in her role, her goal is to ensure a successful client experience from initial engagement through completion of the project through consulting, advising, and advocating for the client. She not only offers a fresh perspective on being a Cimplifi employee, but Danielle is new to the legal technology field. We hope you enjoy learning more about Danielle and seeing what makes the employee experience at Cimplifi special to her.

Amy: Hello Danielle, nice to chat with you today. Let’s kick this off with you taking me through a typical day in your role at Cimplifi.

Danielle: Since I am new to the legal technology space, I’m learning the ropes as quickly as I can.  I came from the court reporting industry and have a legal circle, so I have been reaching out to my contacts to understand their eDiscovery engagements and workflows to see if I can continue supporting them and see if Cimplifi might be a good partner.

A: It’s so important to have a professional network and I’m glad to hear you’re still able to connect with them! So, where did you grow up and where are you based now?

D: I am a southern California girl (Loma Linda, CA to be exact) and I am currently based in Long Beach, CA.

A: And what brought you to Cimplifi?

D: As with many others during the past few years, I reevaluated my priorities and goals.  I was searching for something different and looking for more solutions to offer my legal network.  After eight years focusing on court reporting, I came to the realization that one of my top strengths is case management, and therefore was intrigued at the strategic engagement team at Cimplifi.

A: I love this; I’m always telling our teams to have an eye on the horizon and to understand what you’re doing today can get you to where you want to be in the future. On that subject, I’d love to know who or what inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

D: Our colleague, Trish Anderson took me under her wing eight years ago.  We are very different in so many ways, but I think it’s fair to say we are likeminded when it comes to taking care of our clients.

A: Having a strong connection with client relationships is key for success in our business. Speaking of the key to success, are there certain Cimplifi company values you connect with the most?

D: Control!  It’s not one of our core employee values, but we use these words, “control, choice, and ease” when referring to our Cimplifi environment and client experience and control really resonates with me.

A: Yes, giving control to our clients is a key tenet of our beliefs and I agree our team is responsive to any client need! What part(s) of our mission resonates with you most?

D: Empowering our clients resonates the most because if our clients are empowered, they are growing, which means we are doing our jobs well.

A: Empowerment goes hand in hand with control like we were just saying. I know you haven’t been here long but have you been able to take advantage of any resources while at Cimplifi?

D: Our most valuable resources are the people I get to work with every day.  I’ve tried to connect with many on the team and learn from our wizards.  Our marketing library and some of our partner collateral, such as the DocuSign training modules have been super helpful.

A: Tell me more about the people, what is your team like?

D: The strategic engagement team is culturally and professionally diverse.  I love it.  We get together weekly and get to bounce ideas off each other and learn from one another.

A: I love that you point out diversity and that your team embraces it to learn more and grow. How have you grown professionally while at Cimplifi?

D: Not only have I learned new applications at Cimplifi, but I’ve had to retune my listening and time management skills.  My mentor, Trish, supported me on my first few client calls, and after the third call she said, “You’re catching on quickly and listening for the correct buzz words. I’m proud of you.”  Those encouraging words meant a lot then and still do.

A: Words of affirmation! It’s incredibly important to have that encouragement, especially as a new team member. Speaking of encouragement, who inspires you within the company?

D: Kim Carradine.  Kim works so hard to ensure her clients get everything they need.  I feel blessed to get to learn from someone like her.

A: Kim is a rockstar! I’d love to hear from you how employees are empowered to help shape or participate in the company culture?

D: Through our eSat (employee satisfaction) team.  The whole world had to start working remotely in 2020, and Cimplifi has made it a point to still have fun with our co-workers and genuinely cares about employee satisfaction.

A: It’s great you’ve found eSat to be a resource for you. Where do you see yourself in five years?

D: Senior director of strategic engagements or if I’m aiming high… an EVP!

A: Yes! Aim for the stars. Alright, that was fun, but let’s slow it down again. What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

D: At my last job, clients came to me with all kinds of questions because they viewed me as a general resource that would get them whatever they needed.  I wake up every day so I can position myself in that way with past and future clients.  Obviously, I work hard for my family, loved ones, and my dog Ozeki too.  😊
