Recently, Marc Zamsky, CEO of Cimplifi, sat down to chat with Helena McElhatton, CLM & AI analyst to discuss her role at Cimplifi as part of the contract analytics and lifecycle management (CALM^TM) team. Helena has been on our team about six months and brings with her over three years of CLM consulting experience. We hope you enjoy learning more about Helena and seeing what makes the employee experience at Cimplifi special to her.

Marc: Hi Helena, I’m excited to speak with you today! It was great to see you in-person recently when you visited NYC for our team meeting!  Thanks for spending time with me today so we can have our “Cimplifi Conversation.”  So, let’s get started.  Tell me where you grew up and where you are based now.

Helena: If you can’t tell by my accent, I’m Irish and grew up in a small town in Ireland called Cookstown. About 4 years ago after some traveling in the U.S. I made the decision to move to London and have been based there since.

M: That’s so interesting!  I’ve never been to Ireland, but my cousin married an Irish girl, and I’ve met her.  Does that count? Ok, I’ll be serious, how did you end up at Cimplifi?

H: Having worked in the DocuSign ecosystem for most of my career, I was aware of up-and-coming partners and Cimplifi was one partner that came to my attention, specifically for your team’s analytics skills and success within the DocuSign ecosystem. Analytics is something I have a keen interest to expand my knowledge in while still pursuing my career in CLM and Cimplifi gave me the exact opportunity I was looking for!

M: I’m thrilled you learned about Cimplifi and through one of our partners, no less! I’d love to know how you got into this industry and what or who inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

H: I have always been passionate about technology from a young age, especially interested in women in tech. Being what is considered a “minority” in this industry, it has always inspired and challenged me to pursue a career in this industry.  Women have the opportunity today to participate and have our say in creating change and shaping the future of women in tech. I’m also the type of person that gets bored easily so pursuing a career in this ever-changing industry helps keep me on my toes!

M: This team at Cimplifi sure keeps me on my toes and inspires me in the process!  The CALM team has been particularly inspiring to me because we just had our team meeting and seeing the passion and talent this team has in-person really an impression on me.  Tell me more about working on the CALM team from an insider’s perspective? And act like you don’t know me and tell me just what a CLM consultant does?

H: I lead CLM consultations for clients which means I provide both technical solution expertise as well as CLM advisory services. I work with clients to understand their problems and frustrations with current processes to build a best-in-class solution.  From day one it was obvious the team has an extreme passion and drive for success. Having a smaller team based in the U.K. has been a big transition for me, but the U.K. and wider CALM team connect daily making it this transition much easier than expected.  We have daily stand-ups and a dedicated slack channel, so I personally feel connected and supported to the team, but I also have great access to the larger Cimplifi organization.

M: I’m glad to see the team leveraging technology to make their jobs easier.  That’s something we talk to clients about daily.  We want to help our team grow and connect in any way we can.  I know you haven’t been with Cimplifi for very long, but you have been busy.

H: My main goal at Cimplifi was to upskill in DocuSign Insight while maintaining my CLM skills.  With the help of the team, I have been able to do this relatively quickly. Having the support and words of encouragement from the team is motivating to strive for more success!

M: I love to hear this!  When I hear you speak of advancing your skills and how supportive the team has been, it makes me think of our culture and our vision for the future. What part of our culture or values do you connect most with?

H: Empowering our clients resonates the most with me, it is always a key outcome for any project to empower our client with the best solution and skills for success going forward. Having an empowered client is one half of the success story. Inventive is one of our values and I love to push things to their limits and create innovative solutions that can deliver the best solutions for our clients.

M: I like to think I’m inventive too since I have managed to remain in this industry since I was a wee lad.  One thing that’s important though is balancing your career and personal life.  It’s something I still struggle with, but value and I want that to be a priority for our people.  Are you doing a good job at the balancing act?

H: Being a young professional in London, it can be hard to balance both, but luckily, I’m surrounded by a great group of friends that help keep my social calendar more than busy helping to distract myself from thinking about work!

M: I’m glad to hear that and next time I am in London I know who to ask for advice on where to be seen in London!  Tell me Helena, where do you see yourself in five years?

H: In five years I’d love to be a leader in the industry, but most likely I will still be pursuing a career in tech with the focus on inspiring young females to follow the same steps!

M: Helena, I already consider you a leader in this industry and have no doubt you are charting a course for a very successful future!
